Got Gait: An introduction to our new blog all about running


Let's explain Got Gait. Got Gait is our running program that combines functional screening, 3D gait technology for collecting runner biomechanics data, and a follow up program to guide and keep you running better. I am Bill Bedford, I have been a runner participating in the sport of running for over 30 years and a runner for 40 years. In addition to my experience as a long time runner, I have gained knowledge with a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy and continuing education and certifications focused on running. The idea of this blog is to share information, share articles and discuss mechanics of running and more. This is for all of us competitive and recreational runners on the track, in a road race from 5k to a marathon, or on a cross country course. This is also for all of the adults and kids that participate in any sport that requires running.


Running is the core of many of our sports. Injuries to lower extremities involved in running can make or break a season or a big race. We are all at risk for injury and we will never completely eliminate the risk but we can reduce the risk by learning about and being aware of how our bodies move. If we learn we have weaknesses, asymmetry or other risk factors in our gait at earlier stages of running we can prevent injury and help keep us running for more years of our life. If any of you are like me, we have no interest in stopping running as we age and of course I am sure most of you have heard the saying that your knees are going to be ruined by the time your a certain age. It doesn't have to be that way. Studies have shown that runners compared to inactive individuals demonstrate less need for knee replacements, but runners with dysfunctional mechanics can be at higher risk for arthritis and other knee injuries. So if we fix our mechanics we can lower our injury risk.


As we continue with this blog series we will explore more specific topics related to running. As we continue to expand our blog series I encourage you all to start being aware of your body movements and how you run.
